Went to University of Nottingham Malaysia campus in Semenyih yesterday.
It was UNiM Open Day!
It was a long journey from Klang and there are several route to the destinations.
However, after I missed an Exit, I need to go for another route, that past a total of 6 tolls.
Well, i guess i'll spend other time cursing the tolls.
Reached there after about an hour drive.
Entered the main entrance, you will need to pass some guards there
then there is a roundabout which you can either turnabout to the exit or enter the campus driving around a huge lake.
There are a few fountain in the lake... roughly 2 or 3 there...
It somehow make the scene more "lively" than a huge dull campus.
Not bad.
There is a brige across the lake there.
I think it is a footpath brige, its too far so I didn't walk there. :P
Main Entrance Lake and Fountain
After parking my car near the Student Association (SA) building
there are lots of Open Day sign direct you to the Teaching Center,
you can seek advise or maybe asked for a campus tour.
Open Day Sign
You can probably find lots of this sign in the campus...
as many as the number of security guards...
I wonder they work part time or what...
bCause i really doubt: "do we need this MANY?"
A long corridor
Of course, I went for the campus tour.
It seems MOST of the visitors were new/potential students with their parents. :)
Before joining the tour
Let's briefly take a look on the UNiM map.
UNiM Map
The Legend is incomplete with some of them are empty and blank.
I'll list them out instead:
A - Administration Building
B - Business and Management Building (None of my business)
C - Engineering and Computer Science Building (Labs at groundfloor)
(Pharmarcy student going to share here)
D - Extension of Engineering and Comp Science Faculty (I guess)
E - Not Sure... haha.. But i think it should be an academic building with classrooms and teaching hall...
F - Central Teaching
G - Library (having an odd egg shape)
Legend
I.1, I.2 and I.3 are the student's accomodation buildings.
They're attached with strange name like Tioman, Langkawi and Redang.
Maybe is it main to intro and ad our country's lovely vacation spot to the foreigners.
It would be fun after the Uni starts, when your friends asked you
"Where are you?"
You can answer them:
"I'm in Tioman!"
All the academic buildings are surrounded in circle in a small gap in between.
The design is simply awesome.
Although those buildings aren't really gigantic, but they're certainly what we called:
"although sparrow is small, five internal organs are in there too"
(麻雀虽小,五脏俱全)
The middle of the circle is a fountain. It isn't operation thing anyway.
And the one below is the Engineering and Computer Science Faculty.
RED colour!!!
That's really cool and nice! I love the colour they offered to the faculty.
RED is Liverpool FC's colour. :P
Engineering and Computer Science Faculty
Closer snapshot of the Eng and Comp Sci Building
I wonder what the heck the cylinder tower there for?
If you know.... Please tell me...
Administration Building
Administration Building, there is a "luxurious" looking cafe on the groundfloor, indoors and outdoors.
I wonder students will be allowed to go there?
Without the signboard, I would probably think it is some sort of Starbucks cafe...
Beside the Central Teaching building is the Library and E-Learning centre.
I mean we used to called it ISCRA 1 2 3 when we were in MISC building...
Library
The shape of the Library is really weird, and I don't really like the colour...
What colour we called that anyway? "Yuck!"
Then we have the Student Association building,
where we have those fusball table, and pool table etc gaming stuff.
I didn't saw all those stuff anyway coz i bet they're on the second floor.
SA building
The groundfloor is mainly cafeteria.
The cafe is quite nice but it will be a little to packed, I guess, when the Uni commence...
And i do hope the variety of foods and the quality of food will increase over there.
However, something is certainly going to let me down i guess...
the PRICE... ai...
Inside the cafe
It was kinda dark inside, so I didnt take many shots there...
The tour is rather boring to me...
Cabut!!!
Byeeee
See you in UNiM...
If you are a student there...
or staff...
or lecturer...
or warden...
or cleaner...
or construction workers...
or cafe staff...
or.......
Cis!
Just see you and takecare and have fun!

wait wait, you said students with their parents? ZOMG. Malaysian kids are growing up slower and slower by the day. i rememebered my 1st day at kindergarten, my dad drove me to the gates, then said "okay, see that bus with a "V" sign on it? board that then it will bring you strait home". he climbed on his car and left. we walked in the gates by ourselves.
seeing parents standing outside of classrooms for the whole duration of a days class is not uncommon during primary.
similar thing happened during my high school years.for a week at least the year 7 students had their parents waiting for them outside the class room.peeking in occasionally.
NOW even in UNIVERSITY? what has the malaysian society become of today?
Aussie kids move out to live alone as young as the age of 16 !!!
*sign*
i apologize for all the grammar and spelling mistakes like "remembered" and "straight" in my previous comment, was rushing for a class =p
killroy:
hahaha...
open day maa...
some parents wanna see whether this Uni is worth to invest their children in or not la...
killroy:
nvm about spelling la.
i m not going to minus your marks nor grades
Visiting the Uni with your parents arent that bad.. for the first time.. but let's just hope that their curiosity (parent's) and caring wont be so overwhelming until you see them in your lecture hall in the near future..
that will be kinda.. weird..
Anyhow, i am impressed by the Uni-matchable design they have there for the buildings.. looks cool..
At last, nothing as bored as a plain squarish block that looks like secondary school classrooms
yeah, i guess if the parents are just there to "test the water" then it should be fine... but yeah like you said, if they wait for their children outside the lecture halls and all, with the lunch boxes and tupperwares and all, im going to scream
